- More than a decade of conducting over 500 Mediations in just about every possible litigation area, many of considerable significance and large numbers of parties.
- Related academic pursuits, articles, presentations, and federal government mandates described below and under the Curriculum Vitea Tab.
- Conduct of Mediations and Settlement Conferences as a judge in two Superior Courts.
My formal academic training on Mediations, besides my writing and speaking on these topics, includes sessions with CDR Associates, Boulder, Colorado in 1994 and 2003, then an internationally recognized Mediation training organization (retained by the Ontario and British Columbia Law Societies to first introduce interest negotiation to lawyers); and in 2004 at the Queen’s Industrial Relations Centre (Negotiating Collective Bargains Certificate). My full resume is described at the Curriculum Vitea Tab.
I offer the following examples of my work that supports my commitment to the practice of Mediation as nearly always the preferred manner to resolve disputes:
Should mediators Take the Reins? Evaluative Interventions in Mandatory Mediations
Differentiating the more ‘evaluative interventionist’ approach versus the more ‘process assistance’ style of mediating.

This includes Round Table Mediation with Union and Employer Representatives to consider and adopt “consensus” options which had been identified during the consultation process of the study (pp.178-193). [an integrative interest-based negotiation.]

Competitive Bargaining and Mediation Training for Lawyers
A YouTube Channel consisting of a suite of nine (9) videos.
Advisory: the videos are a ‘beta’ version and not produced in their intended final format due to my interceding judicial appointment in 2010. The videos are published on an “as is” basis. My hope is that their publication will result in an improved appreciation and focus on competitive bargaining and the art of mediating as a necessary teaching skill to complement that of interest negotiation. Accordingly, the reproduction of the videos is not restricted, but offered with the hope that perhaps others will take up the challenge of creating an improved version.
